Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Niantic’s augmented reality game that follows up on Pokémon GO’s success, is officially closing on January 31st, 2022. In the game’s official statement, the game will be unlisted from the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store on December 6th.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will also implement a few changes prior to shutting down, which includes increased rewards for all Daily Assignments, reduced Potion Brew times with Master Notes, and a removal of the daily cap on sending and opening Gifts. Barrufio’s Brain Elixir potion will also have an increased award of 3x player XP, plus increased frequency for 1920s Portkey Portmanteaus on the map (the same is true for the Spell Energy and Ingredients on the map).
More events will also be launched, which includes Dolores Umbridge Lethal Adversaries Event, Half-Blood Prince Brilliant Event Part 1, Lucius Malfoy Lethal Adversaries Event, Half-Blood Prince Brilliant Event Part 2, Bellatrix Lethal Adversaries Event, Voldemort Lethal Adversaries Event, and Deathly Hallows Brilliant Event Parts 1-2.
“Not all games are meant to last forever. Our goal with Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was to bring the magic of the wizarding world to life for millions of players as they stepped outside and explored their neighborhoods. We accomplished that together, delivering a two-year narrative story arc that will soon complete,” says Niantic’s official statement. “Our goal is to deliver the best experiences to you, our players, based on our pillars of exploration, exercise and real world social interaction. We’ll take all of the learnings from Harry Potter: Wizards Unite into our other projects.”
