If you’re unfamiliar with the Aces of the Luftwaffe series it’s a shmup where you’ll be dogfighting against waves upon waves of enemies. There will also be 12 bosses to tackle as you battle your way through the two campaigns who will test your flight combat skills. Plenty of explosions and burning wreckages are too be expected.
Whilst dodging bullets to keep your plane hole-free, there will also be power-ups to collect to help cull the aircraft you’re currently fighting. There will also be a variety of special abilities you can activate to devastate enemy pilots when timed correctly.
There are eight different companions you’ll encounter throughout the game, each fully voiced to try and put a bit more feeling into the game between all the exploding aircraft. You’ll be able to upgrade your various pilots too through their personal skill trees.
It seems the game is big on different options then and that extends to the aircraft you’ll be able to pilot during your adventures. There are 20 in total which each having their own distinct advantages and drawbacks to consider before taking off.
You won’t be taking to the skies alone though, there will be several AI wingmen and women joining you in battle. There will be several commands available to you so that you can give orders to your squadron on the fly, which I could see getting very hectic in this kind of game so I’m intrigued to see how they manage it.
Aces of the Luftwaffe – Squadron: Extended Edition is available now over on the App Store and Google Play. It’s a premium title that costs $6.99.
