Oceanhorn: Chronos Dungeon from Cornfox & Bros is out today on Apple Arcade, a follow-up to the developer’s popular old school RPG Oceanhorn series.

This one is a little different, however, now introducing some roguelite elements as it moves away from the traditional retro RPG format. It’s set after Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm, which was an Apple Arcade exclusive back in September 2019, and it takes place two hundred years after an event called The Catastrophe has splintered the Realm of Arcadia into many islands of the Uncharted Seas, as smaller settlements are fragmented and scattered around, with many floating between the clouds.

This game involves a band of adventurers setting out on an expedition to restore the world to its former glory. Making their way into an ancient underground complex called the Chronos Dungeon, they discover the hidden Paradigm Hourglass which is a powerful artifact with the ability to change history.

Moving away from the traditional RPG format, Cornfox has tailored Oceanhorn: Chronos Dungeon into a dungeon crawler roguelite, where you and three friends band together to explore the labyrinthine structure of the Chronos Dungeon and discover its secrets together.

It uses a casual but familiar 16-bit aesthetic in its visual design, but opts for a modernised arcade format. The game is designed to be played over short, quick sessions inspired by tabletop RPGs which have a lot of depth. Despite that, it’s also very family friendly in its approach, allowing players of all ages to engage with its content.

Oceanhorn: Chronos Dungeon is available today on Apple Arcade, the premium subscription service for iOS devices which allows access to hundreds of mobile games. You can read more about that at the official website.
